Newlywed bride and groom smiling and looking into each other's eyes in front of Chelmsford Registry Office

a beautiful candid moment

Here are my thoughts on "why I love a particular wedding photo" from my perspective as a London-based documentary wedding photographer.

As a passionate candid wedding photographer, I love capturing real, spontaneous moments as they happen throughout the day. I always aim to be carefully observant so that I'm ready to capture those unique "moments" as they come.

This was an intimate wedding at a Chelmsford registry office for Michael and Jurgita.

If I had to choose a single word to describe this wedding, it would be heartfelt. It was a micro-wedding (just six guests) and the bride’s mother and daughter had flown in from Lithuania which made it extra special.

As you can see below, I have included some of the other photos from this wedding but this one stands out to me because it captures a real moment of joy and connection between the couple. Though my “thing” is unposed, documentary shots, most couples do want a few posed photos on the day, and I think that’s great. The posing session doesn’t need to take long, and Granny will love her framed wedding photo on the mantle! When I work with a couple, I try to pose them in a way that looks and feels natural. It’s often the moments between the poses that reveal the best photos, and this is one of those moments. I had just taken some posed shots and we were moving to a new location. I have learned to be ready during these in-between times because that’s often where the magic happens.

I also think it’s a good example of documentary wedding photography and why I love it: it’s fun, real, and natural and captures the mood and feeling of the day.

I often describe photos like these as ones that you can almost "sense." They transport you right back to that specific moment, allowing you to take in the energy and atmosphere of the memory all over again. For me, this is the sign of a great wedding photograph – the ability to elicit the joy, the love, and the distinctive ambiance of that special moment. As my couples look through their wedding album in the future, it's these photographs that will allow them to relive memories of their special day and the genuine moments that made it truly wonderful.

If you're preparing for a wedding filled with such moments, I'd be happy to discuss how we can capture the spirit of your day through those special moments that are unique to you. Let's connect and explore some ideas for documenting your one-of-a-kind love story.
