Black and white photo of a bride and her wedding party walking in the rain to the church while holding umbrellas

a beautiful candid moment

In this post, I talk about “why I love a particular wedding photo” from my photographer's point of view.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I enjoy capturing authentic and spontaneous moments as they happen during the day. I spend a lot of time looking for and anticipating special “moments."

This shot was from a wonderful wedding in Wraysbury in the marquee of a large family garden.

This was a very relaxed, fun wedding. The bride and groom were both pretty laid back, so they weren’t too phased when the weather turned. While we were waiting in the church for the bride to arrive, we heard thunder rumbling, and the heavens opened. I went outside to catch their arrival.

As you can see below, I have included some of the other photos from this wedding, which are beautiful, for sure, but the reason I love this particular photo is that it captures the spirit of the bridal party perfectly.

I also think it’s a good example of documentary wedding photography, and that's why I love it. You couldn’t set something like that up, and for me, it’s much more meaningful than the obligatory family group shots. There’s a place for those, for sure, but for me, these kinds of candid moments are the most precious.

I often describe photographs like these as ones that you can almost "sense." They transport you right back to that specific moment, allowing you to take in the energy and atmosphere of the memory all over again. For me, this is the sign of a great wedding photograph – the ability to elicit the joy, the love, and the distinctive ambiance of that special moment. As my couples look through their wedding album in the future, it's these photographs that will allow them to relive memories of their special day and the genuine moments that made it truly wonderful.

If you're preparing for a wedding filled with such moments, I'd be happy to discuss how we can capture the spirit of your day through those special moments that are unique to you. Let's connect and explore some ideas for documenting your one-of-a-kind love story.
