Wedding guests sitting, smiling, and laughing at a ceremony at The Old Marylebone Town Hall in London

a beautiful candid moment

This post is talks about “why I love a particular wedding photo” from my point of view as the photographer.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I love to capture authentic and spontaneous moments as they happen throughout the day. I put a lot of my energy into looking for and anticipating special “moments.”

This shot was from a wonderful wedding at the famous Old Marylebone Town Hall in the heart of London.

If I had to choose a single word to describe this wedding it would be fun. Cecile and Roger have an amazing family and group of friends and there was laughter from the moment I got there till the end of the day.

This moment happened at a critical part of the ceremony when the officiant asks if anyone present has any objections to the marriage. Photographing a wedding is all about anticipating what is going to happen next and being ready. I knew that at this moment there is usually a little laugh from the guests, so I was ready with my camera. As it happened, immediately after the question was asked a police car right outside the window started it’s sirens. It was a very funny moment and of course, everyone laughed. This shot captures the happy, joyous mood of the day.

I also think it’s a good example of documentary wedding photography and why I love it. You couldn’t set something like that up and, for me, it’s much more meaningful than the obligatory family group shots. There’s a place for those, for sure, but for me, these kinds of candid moments are the most precious.

WEDDING PHOTOS THAT Transport YOU BACK

I often describe such photos as those I can almost "smell." They take you back to the very moment, allowing you to sense the room's atmosphere and the energy that filled it. To me, this is what defines a great wedding photograph – the ability to evoke the laughter, the love, and the unique ambiance of that singular moment. As my couples flip through their wedding album in the years to come, it’s these kinds of photographs that will undoubtedly bring back memories of their wedding day and the special moments that made it truly special.

If you're planning to have a wedding full of moments like these, I'd love to discuss how we can capture the essence of your day with the unique moments that will make it special to you.. Let's connect and explore the possibilities of documenting your unique love story.
