"Gary made the whole experience really fun and enjoyable. It speaks volumes that, while the couple's photos were one of the elements we were most nervous about, that ended up being one of our favourite parts of the day."

relaxed Wedding photography for London couples who don’t like to pose

I get it. You want to enjoy the day — the hugs, the laughter, the quiet moments in between — knowing it’s all being captured naturally, without being stopped and told to pose every five minutes.

I work with couples in London who care more about connection than perfection. The ones who say, “We’re not really photo people,” but still want beautiful photos that feel like them. Nothing forced, nothing awkward — just calm, honest documentary wedding photography focused on real moments and genuine emotion. I notice moments for you while they're busy living them.

When the day’s done, you’ll have a set of photos you actually love, that bring the day back to life, remind you how it all felt, and don’t make you cringe!

"We were blown away at the quality of the gallery and the moments that Gary had managed to capture, there were lots of moments where we didn’t even realise he was there. He wasn’t just a photographer; he felt like a guest and a wedding coordinator at times, keeping everything and everyone on track."

A calm, unobtrusive approach

Hi, I’m Gary. It’s nice to meet you! My work has been recognised by the International Photo Awards, Tokyo Foto, and the New York Times — and has appeared everywhere from the BBC to billboards and most impressively... on tea towels! I've photographed everywhere from the House of Commons to house boats, St Paul's Cathedral to St John's of Smithfield.

More importantly, I’ve had over 150 five-star Google reviews and won the Hitched Wedding Awards three years running. What couples mention most, though, isn’t awards — it’s how calm and easy I make everything feel on their big day. I quietly blend in, keep an eye out for real moments and guide you gently when you need it.

What Makes Getting Married In London So Special?

Getting married in London comes with a sense of history you can genuinely feel on the day. Weddings have been happening here for centuries, often in the very same buildings still used today. When you choose London, you’re not just picking a location — you’re stepping into a bigger story that story quietly shapes your day.

What I see again and again in London is how naturally the city supports relaxed, honest celebrations. That’s why getting married in London feels so special - the city’s history, its everyday life, and its character all weave themselves into the day, creating images that feel meaningful and unmistakably London.

"Gary is an amazing photographer and artist but also an amazing human being who strives to capture the story behind the image. We hired Gary’s services for our wedding. He met us before-hand to make sure he understood everything about our wedding. The end result was stunning. You won’t regret booking Gary!"

What makes your style of documentary wedding photography different?

Most wedding photographers describe themselves as documentary photographers, but that can mean very different things in practice. My approach is to focus on real moments rather than creating them. I always say, "this is your wedding day not a photoshoot". I don't spend the day directing people, setting up shots or asking guests to repeat things for the camera (this is very common). Instead, I quietly observe what's happening and capture the day as it naturally unfolds.

That doesn't mean you'll be left completely on your own. If you need help with group photos or a little guidance during your couple portraits, I'm happy to help. The difference is that the photography never takes over the wedding. The result is a collection of natural wedding photographs that reflect what the day actually felt like, not just what it looked like.

We hate having our photo taken. Can you help?

Absolutely - that's my specialty! In fact, that's probably the most common reason why couples come to me. Many of the people you see on my website arrived at their wedding convinced they were awkward in front of the camera. Most had never had professional photographs taken before and were worried about posing.

The good news is that documentary wedding photography is ideal for people who don't enjoy being photographed. Because I spend most of the day capturing genuine moments as they happen, you don't need to perform for the camera.

For couple portraits, I keep things really simple, relaxed and natural. There are no complicated poses and no expectation that you'll suddenly become professional models. Most couples tell me afterwards that it was far easier and more enjoyable than they expected. If you're looking for beautiful photos but don't like posing, you're exactly the kind of couple I work with.

How much coverage do we need?

The amount of wedding photography coverage you need depends on your plans for the day. My average for London micro weddings is 2-4 hours.

For many London town hall weddings and micro weddings, two hours is usually enough to cover the ceremony, family photographs and couple portraits. If you want me to cover a bit of the reception drinks and maybe speeches before the wedding breakfast is served, you'll need another hour. If you want the evening celebrations and dancing... well, jisy decide how long you want me there for. I usually stay for an hour after the first dance which is enough to get plenty of party photos before I leave you to it. We can figure all this out on a call where I can help you work out the timeline for the whole day.

What are the most popular London town halls for a micro wedding?

London has some fantastic town halls for intimate weddings and micro weddings. I've written accurate and genuinely useful guides for some of the most popular including: at Islington Town Hall, Hackney Town Hall, Camden Town Hall, Chelsea Old Town Hall, Old Marylebone Town Hall, York House, Lambeth Town Hall, Morden Hall and Morden Park House. Each venue offers something slightly different, but all are excellent choices for couples planning a small London wedding. As a photographer who regularly works at London town halls, I'm always happy to advise on the best options for your ceremony size, budget and style.Just let me know.

How much does a wedding photographer cost in London?

As you might guess, the cost of a London wedding photographer varies enormously depending on experience, coverage and what's included. For a small London town hall wedding or micro wedding, prices often start at around £500-£1,000. For full-day coverage, most experienced professional wedding photographers charge somewhere between £1,500 and £3,500, with some charging considerably more.

As with most things, price isn't everything. What's more important is finding a photographer whose style and approach feel right for you. You'll spend a large part of your wedding day with them, so personality and trust matter just as much as the photographs themselves.

My own coverage starts at £650 for a mid-week two-hour micro wedding and around £2,200 for full-day coverage. Most couples book me because they want natural, documentary-style photography and don't want to spend their wedding day posing for endless photographs. If you're not sure how much coverage you need, I'm always happy to help you work out the best option for your plans and budget. Get in touch and we can arrange a call.
