Ellie & Richard’s Micro Wedding at Islington Town Hall and Frederick's
Ellie and Richard’s wedding was proof that you don’t need a huge guest list to create a brilliant wedding day. Their micro wedding at Islington Town Hall had everything that mattered: a relaxed atmosphere, plenty of laughter and the chance to spend real time with the people closest to them. As a documentary wedding photographer at Islington Town Hall, these are the kinds of days I love to photograph.
The story of how they met was a great place to start. Ellie had just moved to London and into a shared house with two of Richard’s friends. A week later, they were deliberately seated opposite each other because everyone thought they were both a bit nerdy and would get along. They were right, and the rest is history.
A relaxed walk through Islington
They were lucky with the timing, too. A 10 am ceremony in Room 99 at Islington Town Hall meant beautiful light and comfortable temperatures on one of the hottest days of the year. After the ceremony, we stayed inside for a few natural portraits before heading out for confetti and group photos. Once the guests made their way to The York, Ellie and Richard, and I wandered along Upper Street, stopping at a few of their favourite places before jumping into a black cab to Regent’s Canal for a few more relaxed photographs. It's exactly why I enjoy being a documentary wedding photographer at Islington Town Hall and around Islington, letting the day unfold naturally rather than rushing from one pose to the next.
The celebrations continued with a pint of Guinness at The York before everyone headed the short distance to Frederick's for the rest of the day. Their private room upstairs was the perfect setting to carry on celebrating, and everything flowed effortlessly from start to finish. If you're looking for a documentary wedding photographer at Frederick's or a documentary wedding photographer at Islington, and you'd like beautiful photos for people who won’t like to pose, this was a perfect example of how relaxed weddings can produce some of the most memorable moments. As a Natural wedding photographer, days like this are always a reminder that keeping things simple often makes for the best photographs.
