Wedding Photography At Camden Town Hall – What You Need To Know

Camden Town Hall is one of central London’s most striking places to get married and it is one of my favourite places to photograph! All the staff are lovely, the rooms are gorgeous and that marble staircase! Wow. It suits couples planning a relaxed but stylish wedding and works particularly well if you want a venue that feels grand without being overwhelming.

Of all the London town halls Camden Town Hall really is a personal favourite to photograph (and no... it's not just because I live down the road!). The rooms are stylish and the balance between historic architecture and contemporary design gives weddings here a real sense of occasion without feeling formal or stiff. Being so close to King’s Cross also means everything feels connected and efficient, which couples often really appreciate.

What It’s Like To Get Married At Camden Town Hall

Be aware that Camden Town Hall isn't actually in the part of Camden you might think. People often imagine it to be next to the more edgy Camden Market but in fact it is right opposite King's Cross St Pancras Station.

The most recognisable feature inside Camden Town Hall is the sweeping white marble staircase, which sits at the heart of the building and is perfect for photos. The registrars will give you a warm welcome and show you to a lovely waiting area before taking you through to your ceremony room. Afterwards you can enjoy a champagne reception inside the building, which works well if you want to keep guests together before heading elsewhere.

My Style Of Photography

My whole approach to wedding photography is summed up in one line: beautiful photos for people who don’t like to pose. I focus on real moments as they unfold rather than staging or directing them, so you can enjoy your day fully — the people, the atmosphere, the small in-between moments — while I quietly observe and capture everything in a natural, honest way, without awkward posing or constant interruption.

I’m calm and unobtrusive, blending in more like a guest than a photographer, and I only step in when it’s genuinely helpful to offer a bit of gentle guidance. This is your wedding day, not a photoshoot — you’ll still get beautiful images, just without being told what to do every five minutes. My priority is that you and your guests feel relaxed and present, and that when you look back at your photos, they take you straight back to how the day really felt.

Gary did an absolutely wonderful job of photographing our wedding day last week. He was very thoughtful all the way through from initial enquiry to final delivery of the photos (which was also done very promptly!). Gary struck a fabulous balance of helpful instructions while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and fun! He captured lovely shots of everyone on the day and it was a pleasure working with him - would highly recommend :)

The Ceremony Rooms

Camden Town Hall offers a good range of rooms, which makes it easy to match the space to the kind of wedding you’re planning. They are all newly refurbished, light and airy which is great for photography.

The Primrose Room

The Primrose Room

The Primrose Room is the smallest space at Camden Town Hall and is a real gem. There's lots of light and a lovely contemporary design which works well for photos. I think the Camden Town Hall website undersells this room - some of my favourite ceremonies have been here. Like all the ceremony rooms at Camden you have access to the magnificent marble staircase for photos after your ceremony.

Capacity: Couple plus up to four guests.

Style: Simple, contemporary, understated, functional.

Pet-friendly: No.

The Heath Suite

The Heath Suite is a popular choice at Camden Town Hall for couples looking for something modern and relaxed. It sits comfortably between the smallest rooms and the larger spaces, making it ideal for intimate to mid-sized groups that still want a sense of occasion without formality. It's easy for me to work in with plenty of space and lots of light. With the standard set up there’s enough space at the front of the room to create a short aisle if you’d like a small walk-in moment.

One thing that makes the Health Suite special is that it can be made a lot larger by sliding open the partition wall of the Primrose Room next door. In this case there is room for up to 100 people and a much longer aisle.

Capacity: Up to around 60 guests (or 100 guests when combined with the Primrose)

Style: Bright, modern, clean lines

Pet-friendly: No

The Regent’s Room

The Regent’s Room has a slightly more classic feel than some of the other spaces at Camden Town Hall. With large windows and greenery, it suits couples who want a calm, airy setting for their wedding ceremony. Depending on how the seating is arranged for your ceremony, the layout allows for a good length aisle for you walk down.

Capacity: Up to around 20 guests

Style: Light, airy, contemporary with a softer feel

Pet-friendly: No

The Council Chamber

The Council Chamber is the largest room at Camden Town Hall with a real sense of scale that immediately feels like a significant moment. It’s also the best room at Camden Town Hall if you’d like a longer aisle and a more traditional entrance. I like the horseshoe shape which means everyone has a good view and there's plenty of space for me to move around for photos.

Capacity: Up to 160 guests

Style: Grand, formal, civic architecture

Pet-friendly: Yes

The Marble Staircase Ceremony

You can have a very small ceremony on the iconic white marble staircase at Camden Town Hall and is one of the most visually striking ways to get married here. Set within the heart of the building, surrounded by Art Deco details and flooded with natural light, it feels intimate yet unmistakably special and is great for photos. It’s especially well suited to couples planning a legal-only ceremony here, with celebrations happening elsewhere later on.

Capacity: Couple plus two witnesses only (no additional guests).

Ambiance: Bright and romantic, with white marble, Art Deco features and plenty of natural light.

Best for: Couples who want a tiny wedding in a visually striking setting.

Good to know: This space is only available at specific weekday times, usually mid-afternoon. It's for very short ceremonies, typically around ten minutes and if often chosen by couples planning a symbolic or larger celebration later.

Camden Town Hall FAQs

CAN WE HAVE RELIGIOUS READINGS OR MUSIC?

Civil ceremonies at Camden Town Hall must be non-religious. This means you can’t include religious wording, readings from the Bible or other sacred texts, hymns, or vows taken directly from traditional church ceremonies.

CAN WE BE INTERVIEWED SEPARATELY BEFORE THE CEREMONY?

In many cases, yes. At Camden Town Hall you can usually request to be interviewed separately so you don’t see each other before the ceremony, allowing for a first look as you enter the room.

DO WE NEED TO BRING OUR OWN WITNESSES?

Yes. You must bring two adult witnesses to your wedding ceremony at Camden Town Hall. The registration team can’t act as witnesses but I can, if you need me to.

CAN WE USE CONFETTI?

Confetti is allowed outside Camden Town Hall only and must be biodegradable. Confetti isn’t permitted inside the building.

IS CAMDEN TOWN HALL PET FRIENDLY FOR WEDDING CEREMONIES?

No, not generally.

CAN WE WALK DOWN THE AISLE?

Some ceremony rooms at Camden Town Hall allow space for a short aisle entrance. This works particularly well in the Council Chamber, which has the longest and clearest aisle and is great for photos.

Gary was excellent. From the very start he understood exactly what we were after and the execution on the day was seamless. Gary melted into the shadows and produced some memorable photos of the wedding that we will treasure forever.

Local Reception Venues

Stepping out of Camden Town Hall, you’re right on the edge of King’s Cross, which gives you a huge amount of choice when it comes to reception venues. As a wedding photographer, this is one of the reasons I enjoy working here so much — everything is close, walkable, and easy for guests.

Just across the road is the beautiful St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which is a popular option for couples looking for a more elegant reception setting. Be sure to check out the magnificent Grand Staircase where you can also get married by the registrars from Camden Town Hall. You do need permission to photograph here though, even outside and security are pretty keen!

Another great place a very short walk away is The Standard Hotel. As well as a lovely restaurant for smaller groups that have a fabulous private roof terrace which is perfect for a wedding reception party with views and photographs across to St Pancras over the road.

A short walk takes you to Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard, which is packed with restaurants, bars and cafés. German Gymnasium is a favourite for stylish dining, while Dishoom and Caravan are both relaxed, reliable options that work well.

For something slightly different, a short taxi ride brings you to Exmouth Market, which is another excellent area for receptions. I can happily recommend Caravan, and Coin Laundry is particularly good if you have a larger party and want a space that can comfortably handle dinner and dancing.

Getting To Camden Town Hall

Camden Town Hall is very easy to reach, which makes planning a wedding here straightforward for both you and your guests. It’s around a five-minute walk from King’s Cross St Pancras, one of London’s main transport hubs, with multiple Underground lines, national rail services and the Eurostar.

Euston Station is also close by, and there are plenty of bus routes serving the area. Cars can usually arrange drop-off and collection directly outside the main entrance on Judd Street, which keeps arrivals and departures simple on the day.

Local Vendors: Dresses And Florists

Supporting local businesses adds a wonderful personal touch to your day, and the area around Camden Town Hall is full of fantastic options. For bridal attire, Camden Passage offers a charming selection of boutiques, including Angelica Bridal, just a short walk away, you’ll also find Charlie Allen, a tailor famous for bespoke suits and The Flower Yard offers beautifully crafted arrangements with seasonal blooms.

Camden Town Hall, King’s Cross And What The Area Is Really Like

Camden Town Hall is often assumed to be close to Camden Market, but in reality it sits much closer to King’s Cross and St Pancras. The area around Camden Town Hall feels more central and architectural, which works very well for a Camden Town Hall wedding photography that feels modern and distinctly London.

For a photographer, the Camden is practical and visually strong. The Town Hall sits on Euston Road, giving easy access and a recognisable London backdrop for wedding photos. Just across the road, Granary Square offers restaurants, bars and open space that many couples use for post-ceremony drinks or a relaxed wedding reception. The nearby canal paths add a quieter option for wedding photography, all within walking distance of the Town Hall.

Directly opposite is the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, one of London’s most striking buildings with its Grand Staircase. In some cases, couples even get married there, with registrars coming over from Camden Town Hall, showing how closely linked the two locations are. Together, Camden Town Hall, King’s Cross and St Pancras create a setting that suits a London wedding very well. For couples and for a photographer documenting the day, the area offers scale, movement and variety without needing to travel far.

Your Camden Town Hall Wedding Photographer

I focus on simple London weddings for couples who want natural, relaxed photos with no awkward posing. You want to enjoy your day and have fun with your guests without camera in your face. Of course you want beautiful photos but they should happen naturally. First and foremost this is your wedding day - it's not a photoshoot. I’m calm, unobtrusive, and always on hand to guide you when it’s genuinely helpful.

I stumbled across Gary's website when Googling our venue and I'm very glad I did! We loved Gary's style and after looking at a lot of photographers, the quality and value was completely unbeatable. We contacted Gary who arranged a no pressure intro call, but 5 minutes in we knew he was the photographer for us. My husband and I are both slightly awkward in front of the camera so Gary's 'taking photos of people who don't like having their photo taken' mantra was perfect. He was extremely familiar with our venue and so it was also really nice to be able to hear more about how the day would run in advance. On the day Gary was professional and charming. He wrangled our families incredibly well, while remaining friendly and fun throughout. We were amazed by how much Gary managed to cram into the two hours we had him for (including some lovely bonus photos of our party while we were doing some paperwork) and Gary made the whole experience really fun and enjoyable. It speaks volumes that, while the couple's photos were one of the elements we were most nervous about, they ended up being one of our favourite parts of the day. We got our photos through much more quickly than we were expecting and were so, so happy with the results. We would happily recommend Gary to anyone! Thank you Gary for everything!
