Islington Town Hall Wedding Photography and On to The Draper's Arms.
This was a really special wedding to photograph, not least because it was at Islington Town Hall just down the road from home, but also because Belinda and Ewan brought along a third VIP in the form of Bertie the miniature schnauzer. It’s always nice when a couple make the day feel personal to them, and this one had that in abundance.
They chose the largest room in the building, the Roma Islington Town Hall council chamber, which is always a good decision from a photographic point of view. It’s an impressive space with clean lines and great natural light, which works perfectly for a documentary approach.
A relaxed walk to The Drapers Arms
After the ceremony we had a few quiet moments in the famous corridor at Islington Town Hall, which is one of my favourite parts of the building for natural, unforced images. From there it was confetti on the front steps and a set of family group photos before heading out into Islington.
We then walked through the streets towards The Drapers Arms, which is a great way to photograph a couple after the ceremony. There’s no pressure, no staging, just time to talk, walk, and notice moments as they happen. That approach sits right at the heart of being a documentary wedding photographer at Islington, London. It also reflects what I aim for as a Natural wedding photographer and my approach of creating Beautiful photos for people who won’t like to pose. The Drapers Arms itself is a strong local choice, and the private room upstairs worked really well with soft natural light despite it being a warm day. The florals from Gail Smith Flowers were also a lovely touch and suited the space perfectly.
As a documentary wedding photographer at Islington Town Hall and The Drapers Arms, days like this are exactly why I enjoy working in the area. Everything is close, familiar, and easy, which allows the couple to stay relaxed and present with their guests. That’s when the photographs really take care of themselves.
Gary was a relatively last minute addition to our wedding as photographer but without doubt a really important one. Gary made sure we prepared by having a call and then an in person catch up so we had built up some rapport before our wedding day. Not only did Gary offer some great photography insights, he also has extensive experience covering London weddings, and in particular, Islington Town Hall. His knowledge on he venue meant that he was able to offer suggestions with regards to timings that worked around our wedding slot, this was a benefit as other weddings followed ours.
Gary has a very relaxed style so he does slip quite seamlessly into your day. he mixed well with our family and friends and this really helped as he was able to incorporate all of them into the photos that we wanted.
As someone who was considering not getting a professional photographer for his wedding day, working with a professional like Gary with so much experience made me 100% happy that I did.
