Very happy to say I’ve won a 9 Dots Wedding Award!
I'm absolutely chuffed to have won a Nine Dots Wedding Award for one of my photographs – my first wedding image to be recognised by my professional peers, which makes it feel even more special. Nine Dots is a wonderful community for wedding photographers where like minded people can exchange idea and feel part of something bigger than themselves. It also means we don't have bore our other halves with conversations about lens and camera bags!
The winning shot was taken during a pre-wedding shoot with Rianne and Mustafa. They’d asked for a sunrise image with Tower Bridge in the background, so we met ridiculously early and got exactly that. Then we wandered over to Tower Bridge itself for a few more photos before jumping in a cab to St Paul’s Cathedral.
Now usually you need a permit to shoot professionally outside St Paul’s, but because it was just after daybreak and we worked quickly and respectfully, I think security decided to let us crack on. The light was beautiful, the streets were still quiet, and Rianne and Mustafa were naturals with the camera – really relaxed and a joy to photograph.
The award-winning image was taken right in front of the cathedral. I set up a little off-camera flash behind the couple to make them pop against the grand backdrop. It was a quick, instinctive shot – one of those moments when everything just comes together.
I've won a few photography awards over the years for portrait work, but this is the first time one of my wedding photographs has been chosen – and I'm genuinely thrilled. Thank you Nine Dots.
