Kathryn and Sean’s Romantic Rivervale Barn Wedding in Yateley, Berkshire
Kathryn and Sean first met in a rock club during a foam party after Sean took a tumble and Kathryn spotted the perfect excuse to introduce herself. It’s one of those stories that’s impossible to forget, and it set the tone for a wedding day that felt relaxed, emotional and full of personality.
Their wedding took place at Rivervale Barn in Yateley, Berkshire, a venue they chose because it immediately felt right. It has a lovely mix of modern design and rustic character, with light-filled spaces and exposed beams that work beautifully throughout the day. As a documentary wedding photographer at Rivervale Barn, it’s a venue I always enjoy because everything flows so naturally from one part of the day to the next.
A relaxed day from start to finish
Kathryn got ready with her bridesmaids in the Pamper Room while Sean and his groomsmen spent the morning in the Shepherd’s Hut. Rather than a first look, they decided to save that moment for the ceremony, and seeing Sean’s reaction as Kathryn walked down the aisle in the Spinney was well worth the wait. The ceremony itself was led by two wonderfully friendly registrars before everyone headed outside for bubbles instead of confetti, group photographs on the lawn and a gentle walk through the gardens for a few relaxed portraits. It was the sort of day that suits a Natural wedding photographer, with plenty of genuine moments and Beautiful photos for people who won’t like to pose.
With glorious weather, guests enjoyed drinks and garden games before heading inside for the wedding breakfast and later the first dance. Afterwards, we still had a few quiet minutes, so we walked back to the Spinney to create one final nighttime portrait. Most of my work as a documentary wedding photographer at Yateley is about capturing real moments as they happen, but when time allows I also like to create one standout image like this. It adds something a little different to the gallery and gives couples a photograph that often becomes one of their favourites for years to come.
