A relaxed Islington Town Hall wedding for Katie and Alex
Katie and Alex’s story started in a way that feels very now — a dating app that only worked one day a week. After a few weeks of matching, a bit of persistence, and one proper date, that was it. They’ve been together ever since. Their wedding day had that same easy, unfussy feel to it. No big production, just the two of them surrounded by the people who matter.
As a documentary wedding photographer at Islington, these are the kind of days I really enjoy. Room 99 at Islington Town Hall is a great space — simple, bright, and perfect for a relaxed ceremony. Everything moved at a natural pace, with time for confetti and a few family photos outside before we made our way through the streets to the reception.
A short walk, good light, and an unexpected photo spot
From the Town Hall, we walked over to the Canonbury Tavern where Katie and Alex had their reception in the Spencer Room upstairs. This part of the day is always a favourite — no tight schedules, just a bit of space to let things happen. As a Natural wedding photographer, I’m always watching for those small opportunities, and this one came in the form of an empty shop we passed along the way.
The door was open, the light inside was perfect, and thankfully the owner was happy for us to step in for a few minutes. Those quick, unplanned moments often turn into the most memorable images, and the black and white shots from that stop are some of my favourites from the day. It’s a good example of how you don’t need much — just good light and a bit of trust. Beautiful photos for people who won’t like to pose, exactly how it should be.
