A traditional wedding for A Countryside Loving Couple
Capturing Zoe and Johan's wedding was a privilege. As a London-based documentary wedding photographer, I’ve had the joy of photographing many special moments, but this wedding at St Peter and St Paul's Church in Aylesford, Kent, had a unique charm. When the vicar is a family friend, it adds a personal touch that makes the day even more meaningful. The church, with its timeless beauty, was filled with guests dressed in bright summer colours, perfectly complementing the floral arrangements and the warm weather.
After the ceremony, I took a short walk with Zoe and Johan through the town. The stroll allowed us to capture some candid shots that truly reflected their happiness (and give them a few minutes of alone time before the festivities). It’s in these unscripted moments that the essence of documentary wedding photography shines—unposed, genuine, and full of life. The couple chose a sturdy Land Rover instead of the traditional white Rolls Royce, a choice that suited their laid-back, practical nature perfectly.
As we arrived at the reception venue, the atmosphere was lively with a hog roast, a marquee, and plenty of Pimms to go around. It was one of those days where everything just fell into place, creating the perfect setting for a celebration filled with love and laughter.
Zoe and Johan’s journey together has been one of enduring love. They met nearly nine years ago in Maidstone, Kent, through mutual friends who set them up on a blind date, cheekily noting their shared curly hair. Their relationship blossomed through years of dates, holidays, and time spent with family. Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship during their university years, with Zoe in Cornwall and Johan in remote Wales, they made it work. Regular 12-hour train journeys became the norm, proving their commitment to each other.
Now, having left the long-distance days behind, Zoe and Johan are building their lives together in Hertfordshire. Zoe is shaping young minds as a primary school teacher in London, while Johan works on a research farm. Yet, Kent still feels like home, and they dream of returning one day to settle down and buy a house.
As a regular Aylesford wedding photographer, it’s always an honour to be part of such significant moments. My approach to candid wedding photography is all about capturing the true emotions and connections that make each wedding unique. If you’re looking for a documentary wedding photographer to capture your story at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Aylesford, or anywhere else, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s create lasting memories together.
"We had the absolute pleasure of working with Gary as our wedding photographer, and we couldn’t be happier! From start to finish, Gary was extremely professional, he took the time to meet with us before the big day to understand exactly what we wanted, which made us feel so supported and confident. On the day itself, Gary was incredibly organised and handled our large family during the group shots. His calm and friendly demeanour made everyone feel comfortable, and it showed in the photos."
