Chelmsford Registry Office's best kept secret

I have to be honest, Chelmsford Registry Office isn't the most setting for a wedding. The room itself is lovely and all the registrars I met there couldn't be more kind but it's set in a functional municipal building with little charm. Just outside the actual ceremony room is a waiting area for other council business, so as and your guests wait for your turn, people are coming back and forth with pushchairs with their own agenda. BUT... it does have a pretty special secret up it's sleeve!

Chelmsford Cathedral is the backdrop for your wedding photos.

It's best kept secret is the stunning cathedral and garden, just a 5 minute walk away, offering the perfect canvas for capturing timeless moments.

getting married at Chelmsford Registry Office

You can see photos from a couple of wedding's here to give you an idea of what your experience getting married at Chelmsford Registry Office will be like.

Jurgita and Michael

As a London-based documentary wedding photographer, my approach focuses on blending into the background, allowing the day to unfold naturally while anticipating and capturing genuine emotions. Jurgita and Michael's personalities shone through effortlessly in their wedding planning and execution. Their decision to forgo extensive posing allowed me to concentrate on a journalistic, documentary style, producing intimate shots that authentically portrayed their special day.

A bridge runs in the sunlight towards Chelmsford Registry Office.

"GARY HAS GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND ON OUR SPECIAL DAY, ARRIVING EARLY TO FIND THE BEST PLACES FOR BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, LOOKING AFTER OUR SMALL WEDDING PARTY, CAPTURING NATURAL MOMENTS WITHOUT GETTING IN THE WAY, AND MAKING SURE EVERYONE WAS COMFORTABLE WHILE POSING. THE PHOTOS CAME OUT ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, AND THE SLIDE SHOW WITH A SONG HE PICKED GOT A FEW OF US TEARING UP WITH EMOTIONS."

Tracey and Paul

This was another intimate wedding at Chelmsford registry office with around 12 people for the actual ceremony. From there we took a short walk to the cathedral and as you can see I photographed a few groups and had a bit of couple time. I'm not sharing everything here, but you get the idea. From there it was about a 20 minute drive to Tracy and Paul's favourite restaurant, Alec's. The sun was shining and it proved to be the perfect spot to enjoy cocktail hour on the lawn before going through to a private dining area to continue the celebrations

People often ask me if I really do enjoy my work as a wedding photographer. They think it must be stressful or exhausting. I can honestly tell you that I absolutely love my job! I love to take pictures and another wedding once everyone's happy for me to do exactly that. Everyone knows there's going to be a photographer there and is happy to see me. And what a pleasure it is to spend a day around people celebrating one of the happiest moments in their lives. Honestly, for me it's just a joy!

Beautiful photos for people who don't like to pose

I've made a career for myself by taking beautiful photographs of people who don't like to pose. All of the photographs you see here on my site are taken very naturally with as little input from me as possible. I find the right spot and put my couples in the right place and just give them a little bit of direction. The rest is up to them.

Since my time doing portraiture I always felt that the easy part was actually taking the photo, the challenge is to make sure my subject feels completely relaxed and that he is. It's an unusual thing having your picture taken by professional photographer. It's not something most people do every day. My job is to make sure everyone feels totally relaxed and actually, dare I say, even enjoys the experience! With a bit of luck it's this that comes through in the photos. My hope is to capture genuine joy which my couples can look back on in years to come and be reminded of their special day.
