Some weddings stay with you because of the setting, some because of the emotion, and some because they’re just ridiculously good fun from start to finish. Marija and Bryn’s wedding at Mayfair Library had all of that, but the thing I remember most was the laughter. The whole day felt relaxed, joyful and completely natural. It never tried too hard to be anything other than a brilliant celebration with the people they love most.
As a documentary wedding photographer at Mayfair Library, those are the kinds of weddings I love to photograph. Every wedding has its own personality and this one felt more like a big party that just happened to include a marriage ceremony. There were emotional moments too of course, especially during the ceremony, but the overwhelming feeling throughout the day was happiness. It made for some really natural photographs and loads of genuine moments between people.
A Rainy Walk to the Pub and Some of My Favourite Photos of the Day
Mayfair Library is such a great venue for a London wedding. The ceremony rooms are bright, elegant and really well laid out which makes a huge difference from a photography point of view. The long aisles gave Marija and Bryn a brilliant entrance and the light inside the venue is perfect for natural, documentary-style photography. After the ceremony, and quite a few tissues being passed around, we managed a quick group photo in the lobby before heading outside for portraits on the front steps.
It did start raining at exactly the wrong moment, but honestly I think it added to the atmosphere of the day. We worked quickly through the formal photos and then walked together through Mayfair towards the pub reception with one umbrella between us. By that point I already knew we had loads of strong images, which meant we could relax a bit and have fun with the photos along the way.
Some of my favourite images from the whole wedding came from that short walk through London in the rain. Beautiful photos for people who won’t like to pose always come from moments like that rather than forcing anything.
