London Micro Wedding Photographer: 2-Hour Town Hall and Registry Office Weddings

If you’re getting married at a London town hall or registry office with a small group of family and friends, and you’d rather enjoy the day than spend it posing, you’ve found a good place. I’m Gary, and I’ve photographed more weddings at Islington Town Hall than anywhere else, so I know how a two-hour town hall wedding runs. This is your wedding day, not a photoshoot.

What 2 Hours Covers

A typical two hours runs in this order.

1. Arrivals. You’ll usually be asked to arrive around 30 minutes early for the registrar interviews, which leaves time for a few relaxed photos while everyone turns up.

2. The ceremony. I photograph it quietly, without setting anything up or asking anyone to repeat things for the camera.

3. Signing and the walk out, then confetti on the steps (the town halls only allow it outside, and it needs to be biodegradable).

4. Family groups on the steps. A list of around six (ten at most), planned in advance, with one of your guests rounding people up. There’s usually another wedding hot on our heels, so we keep it quick.

5. A short walk for your couple portraits somewhere nearby with nice light. I keep it really simple, no complicated poses.

"Gary is fantastic in more ways than one! I would highly recommend working with him. He photographed our Islington wedding and not only are the photos more perfect than I could have imagined, but his kindness and humour throughout the day and ease with our families was much appreciated. Everyone loved having him there. Thank you, Gary!"

Which Town Halls

I’ve written a guide to each of the town halls below, with the ceremony rooms, guest numbers, where to go afterwards and how to get there. Islington is home turf (I live a ten-minute walk away and got married there myself), and Camden’s white marble staircase is a personal favourite.

There are guides to Lambeth Town Hall and Morden Park House too, and if your registry office isn’t on the list, I cover the whole of London, plus Essex, Kent and Hertfordshire.

"Gary was an excellent person to work with for our wedding, from the initial call right up until he sent over the final photos. He's incredibly organised and straightforward in his approach while also allowing you to feel at ease. Everyone at our small wedding complimented his work and personality! My husband and I really enjoyed his photography style and approach during one-on-one shots, and I barely knew he was there at the reception afterwards (in a good way!), which was exactly what we wanted. He was also very quick to send over the final pics which we are in awe over. We couldn't recommend him enough."

Micro Wedding FAQs

Is two hours enough for a town hall wedding?

Two hours is enough for most London town hall weddings. It covers the ceremony, the family photographs and your couple portraits. If you want the drinks and speeches too, you’ll need another hour, and we can work the timeline out together on a call.

How many photos will we get from two hours?

A two-hour micro wedding gets you between 100 and 200 photos, as a rough guide, because I usually deliver around 50 to 100 per hour. The number matters less than how good they are.

Can you be one of our witnesses?

Yes, if you’re getting married in one of the smaller rooms I’m happy to act as a witness and still photograph the ceremony. You legally need two adult witnesses, and the registration team can’t do it for you.

What deposit do you take?

The deposit is 25% on all weddings, and the balance is payable a month in advance.

"Gary made the whole experience really fun and enjoyable. It speaks volumes that, while the couple's photos were one of the elements we were most nervous about, that ended up being one of our favourite parts of the day."
