Your Perfect Day from Start to Finish in Kensington & Chelsea
Kensington and Chelsea offer a unique blend of royal elegance, charming streets, and timeless style, making it one of the most iconic locations in London for a wedding day. As someone who has photographed many ceremonies at Chelsea Old Town Hall—home to the Kensington and Chelsea Register Office—I can honestly say this venue has that perfect mix of grandeur and intimacy. Whether you’re planning a quiet weekday ceremony or a stylish celebration with family and friends, this part of London makes every moment feel special.
Ceremony Venue: Kensington & Chelsea Register Office (Chelsea Old Town Hall)
Located on the fashionable King’s Road, the Kensington & Chelsea Register Office is housed within the beautiful Chelsea Old Town Hall, a Grade II* listed building full of history and charm. From the moment you arrive, the building’s grand steps and iconic façade set a sophisticated tone. Inside, you’ll find a range of ceremony rooms to suit every kind of wedding:
- The Harrington Room is perfect for the most intimate weddings—just you, your partner, and up to 6 guests.
- The Rossetti Room is slightly larger, ideal for small gatherings of up to 12 people, and offers soft, flattering light that’s great for photos.
- The Brydon Room is my personal favourite—it’s bright, elegant, and can accommodate up to 38 guests, offering a lovely balance of intimacy and space.
Each room has its own character, but all share that same refined Chelsea feel. The registrars are friendly and experienced, helping to make your ceremony smooth, warm, and meaningful.
Kensington & Chelsea FAQs
How do we book a wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall?
A.You need to book your ceremony through the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Register Office. You’ll also need to give notice of marriage at your local register office at least 29 days before the ceremony date.
Can we bring our own photographer and take photos during the ceremony?
A.Yes, as long as it's me! lol.
Yes, of course photography is allowed but the venue is quite strict on respectful and discrete photography with minimal flash which suits me and my style perfectly.
Can we bring pets to the ceremony?
A.Pets are generally not allowed inside the ceremony rooms. However, assistance dogs are permitted. If you'd like your pet to be present for photos outside (like on the front steps), contact the venue in advance — they may allow it under certain conditions.
Can we be interviewed separately so we can see each other for the first time in the ceremony room?
A.Yes. You can request to be interviewed separately before the ceremony. This is a popular option for couples who want a “first look” moment as one enters the ceremony room.
Can we have religious readings and music in the ceremony?
A.No. Civil ceremonies must be non-religious by law. That means no hymns, religious texts, or spiritual references in readings or music. You’re welcome to include secular poetry, love songs, classical music, or personal vows — just run them by your registrar in advance for approval.
Do we need to bring our own witnesses?
A.Yes. You’ll need to bring two witnesses, both over the age of 16. They can be friends or family and don’t have to be UK residents or citizens. You are responsible for arranging them.
Can we take photos inside the building?
A.Yes, photography is allowed, but it must be discreet during the ceremony, especially during the legal parts. Most couples hire professional photographers who are used to working with registrars' guidelines. The building itself—especially the marble staircase and ceremony rooms—is very photogenic.
Can we use confetti?
A.Yes, but only biodegradable confetti is allowed, and it must be used outside the building — typically on the front steps after the ceremony. Paper or metallic confetti is not permitted. Always double-check with the venue staff for any updates on this policy.

Reception Venues: King’s Road and Surroundings
Stepping out of Chelsea Old Town Hall, you’re straight onto King’s Road, one of London’s most iconic streets, lined with elegant restaurants, pubs, and cafés. Whether you’re after a relaxed brunch-style gathering or a stylish evening celebration, there’s something within walking distance to suit every vibe. I always tell my couples that this area feels like it was made for weddings—stunning architecture, a lovely buzz in the air, and venues that really know how to host.
A popular pre-ceremony meet-up spot is The Chelsea Pig, just a short walk from the Town Hall. It’s stylish, quiet during the day, and has great natural light for those casual getting-ready or pre-wedding candid photos. Just check there isn’t a local event happening that day, as it can get busy in the evenings!
If you’re looking for something atmospheric and intimate, The Ivy Chelsea Garden is just a 10-minute stroll away and works beautifully for post-ceremony dining. The garden at the back is perfect in spring and summer, and the interiors are always stunning. Right next door is Bluebird Chelsea, which offers larger private dining spaces and an effortlessly modern feel that works well for bigger groups or more formal celebrations.
For something a little more laid-back, The Phene is one of my favourites—it's a stylish yet cosy gastropub with private hire rooms, a gorgeous terrace, and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Many couples love it for smaller receptions with a lot of personality. Another great option nearby is Stanley’s, tucked away just off the main road—it has a hidden garden courtyard and a welcoming, contemporary British menu.
If you’re up for a short cab ride or a 15–20 minute walk, The Cadogan Arms offers a beautifully renovated pub space with a great food menu and elegant interiors—perfect for a classic London reception with a twist.
Transportation: Getting There
Chelsea is very well connected, making it easy for guests to arrive and celebrate without stress. Sloane Square tube station is just a 10-minute walk away, with regular District and Circle Line services. Plenty of bus routes also run along King’s Road, and there’s nearby parking for those arriving by car.
If you’re planning to arrive in a wedding car, there’s a dedicated space for drop-off right in front of the Town Hall—and a quieter side street (Dovehouse Street) that works well for your driver to wait during the ceremony and photos.
Whether you want a chic rooftop drink, a long family-style lunch, or a dance floor that keeps the energy going into the night, Kensington and Chelsea provide everything you need to keep the celebration flowing.
